Wildcard SSL Certificates
A wildcard SSL certificate secures a domain and all of its first-level sub-domains - *.yourdomain.com - with a single certificate, so www, mail, shop, blog and app are all covered without buying a separate certificate for each. It's the cost-effective choice when you run several sub-domains, and every order comes with transparent pricing, a proper tax invoice and unlimited server licences. Frequently asked questions
What does a wildcard SSL certificate cover?
One wildcard certificate secures your base domain and unlimited first-level sub-domains - for example *.yourdomain.com covers www, shop, mail and blog. It does not cover second-level sub-domains such as *.app.yourdomain.com, which need their own wildcard.
Is a wildcard cheaper than separate certificates?
Usually yes. If you have three or more sub-domains, a single wildcard is typically cheaper and far easier to manage than buying and renewing a certificate for each sub-domain.
Which validation levels are available for wildcard?
Wildcard is available at Domain Validation (DV) and Organization Validation (OV). Extended Validation (EV) cannot be issued as a wildcard under industry rules; to cover multiple named sites at EV, use a multi-domain (SAN) certificate instead.
Does every sub-domain need validating?
No. A wildcard is validated once, for the base domain, by a DNS record or (for some products) a file. That validation is re-checked when you reactivate the certificate later in your plan.
Do I get a tax invoice?
Yes - every order includes a proper, itemised tax invoice for your records.
